Several simultaneous techniques were used, among others the traditional Venetian Incalmo technique. During the preparations for the three exhibitions in Italy, Markku Piri was inspired by the great art tradition of Italy. The Bowl of Plenty with its lush and elaborate decor is the tribute of a Nordic artist to the rich glass tradition of Venice.

Markku Piri wanted to create these vases as a homage to the traditions of glass making in Murano, and as a slightly ironic comment on the Scandinavian design tradition where everything has to be simple, and where “decoration” is the biggest sin.
