This series has its origin in Florence, from the architecture and the interior of the first exhibition of Markku Piri in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, among others from the Michelangelesque staircase in the Palazzo. Here, the artist wanted to create respectfully, but also with a little smile, objects which are timelessly archaic in their forms, and lush in their decor. The ancient glass tradition and the artistic ideas of the present times greet each other in a grand manner.

A Decanter of High Hopes turned out exactly as Markku Piri’s original sketch; this is the result of long and fruitful collaboration with the Lasismi Group’s young masters: The artist started to understand them, and how glass works, and they understand the artist. The bottle has a delicate cork, without it, the object could be used as a vase for one exceptional flower. There are several layers of glass, through which the surface treatments reach. Charcoal black, shiny chalk white, and a hint of see-through purple alternate, depending on the light source.
